An Xbase document window is divided into these parts:
Toolbar
The toolbar shows valid actions for the current view. For example, if you are editing a table, a toolbar with add row and remove row items will be shown. If however, you are writing a report, toolbar items for text formatting and a preview button will be shown. You can customise the toolbar in the usual way by selecting the View > Customise Toolbar menu item. You can hide the toolbar by clicking the "tic-tac" at the top right of the window.
Tab Bar
You can edit multiple things at once with tabs. The tab bar has multiple tabs, which you can reorder and close. A tab shows a single view, eg. for editing a table or using a form. You can add new tabs by clicking the plus button to the right.
Button Bar
Some views have a button bar. This is like the toolbar, but takes up less space and is visible even when the toolbar has been hidden.
Search Field
The search field allows you to search through everything in the document. Type what you want to find and Xbase will search through all your data, table definitions, forms and even in your reports and scripts. The search field is on every toolbar by default, but it can be moved and removed by using the customisation sheet.
Source List
The source list does exactly the same as the overview. However it shows your items in a bar at the left and is always present, unless you hide it. At the bottom is the button bar, which allows you to perform actions such as creating new items, deleting items and editing items.
